At the Sea-Side
~Robert Louis Stevenson
A wooden spade they gave to me
To dig the sandy shore.
My holes were empty like a cup.
In every hole the sea came up
Till it could come no more.

Hello Everyone. I hope you had a nice weekend. It has been very warm here as usual but I realized that it is already August and Summer will be coming to an end in no time. I've been wanting to do a beachy post for a while now and my copy of The Mermaid Chair is perfect for that. The jacket is so pretty with its embossed shells, lime green and beige colors.
The Mermaid Chair
Inside the abbey of a Benedictine monastery on Egret Island, just off the coast of South Carolina, resides a beautiful and mysterious chair ornately carved with mermaids and dedicated to a saint, who, legend claims, was a mermaid before her conversion.
Miss Beaufort Mermaid at the Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce and Visitor's Center. Also just in front of one of my favorite delis'. I can't remember the name, even though I've been there four times.
These pictures were taken at Edisto Island Beach. I went there with the intention of getting a beach picnic post. but it was so bright and sunny that day, that I couldn't see anything on my view screen and I kept casting shadows that I couldn't see.
Edisto Beach is made up of Oyster shells and this is a pylon from an old pier.
Yellow and Pink Lantana in an old ball Jar
I'm sharing one of my new teacups. It is Mason's~ Watteau England. I should have got a picture of the handle, because the print is so pretty. The saucer underneath is Spode transferware.
I have started collecting this soap. It is from The Squirrels Nest, a shop in town . It smells so good and the packaging is very pretty. (I like to match it up with my china)
In my little teacup is a hair ornament for the mermaid. It is a vintage piece that I got from an Antique shop years ago.
This silverplate spoon is sitting in one of the oyster shells from the beach.
In the eggcup is a Tumbler Ball from a North Carlina Cotton Factory. (I'll tell the story about that in another post.)

Thank you for stopping by.

You've found so many beautiful ways to decorate with shells. Even the Mermaid book is perfect! You have some wonderful shells, too! Enjoy your evening!
Lovely post, I love the mermaid statue and the pretty straw hat. Everything says summertime to me. Beautiful mosaic and photos. Have a wonderful week ahead.
Lovely post and I must look for the book. I love the beach and shells and mermaids, too. Your teacups, hat and shells made a very clever post.
Well, I typed up a comment and then didn't log in correctly. Lovely lovely post. I enjoyed reading Sue Monk Kidd's articles in Guideposts years ago and have not seen her name until recently. I may look into that book - might be a great read? But, your post is wonderful - feel like I've been there done that . .. Love the spidery-leg shell against the china and the silver spoon rest - all very nicely done! Thank you for sharing.
Lovely combinations of china and seashells at the beach. The book looks completely charming as is this post.
Mermaids are such attractive mythical creatures, aren't they? I like to use shells in the house and garden - ones that I collect on the nearby beaches. Your shells are quite different and beautiful.
So much pretty here! Love your teacup. Perfect for a mermaid. I'm going to savor every moment of summer we have left!
I agree with everyone - just beautiful photos. We don't have alot of "beach" here in Colorado!
Oh, what a delightful post! Love the shells and of course I believe in mermaids.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
A wonderful summer post. I love the Watteau pattern. I have seen the book, but haven't read it. I think your photos are lovely and so evocative of summer beach days. Thanks so much for sharing and linking to Tuesday Cuppa Tea!
