A Little Yellow Cottage

Alone Looking at the Mountain

All the birds have flown up and gone;
A lonely cloud floats leisurely by.
We never tire of looking at each other -
Only the mountain and I
~Li Po

My two sweeties and I truly enjoyed our little
mountain get away. We stayed at an Inn in
Saluda, North Carolina. The Orchard Inn.
This was our fourth time staying at the Inn
but this time we stayed in one of their 4 quaint
cottages. They were built in the 1920's.

Rooster weathervane on the roof

All cottages should have a white picket fence
Don't you think?

I missed getting a picture of the tiny foyer.
Here's the living room. So cute...
I could live here with no problem.

A king sized bed and the whole cottage
was decorated in Waverly fabric and
wallpaper, which is my all time favorite.

I loved having my first cup of coffee on the
porch watching the birds at the feeder and
taking in the beautiful mountain scene.

We would then go up to the Inn for a delicious
breakfast in the beautiful sunroom.

Afternoon tea in the cottage

And like a picket fence...
What would a cottage be
without a rope swing?

Love in a Cottage

A cottage small be mine, with porch
Enwreathed with ivy green,
And brightsome flowers with dew-filled bells,
'Mid brown old wattles seen.

And one to wait at shut of eve,
   With eyes as fountain clear,
And braided hair, and simple dress,
My homeward step to hear.

On summer eves to sing old songs,
And talk o'er early vows,
While stars look down like angels' eyes
Amid the leafy boughs.

When Spring flowers peep from flossy cells,
And bright-winged parrots call,
In forest paths be ours to rove
Till purple evenings fall.

The curtains closed, by taper clear
To read some page divine,
On winter nights, the hearth beside,
Her soft, warm hand in mine.

And so to glide through busy life,
Like some small brook alone,
That winds its way 'mid grassy knolls,
Its music all its own.

Beautiful, and I agree every cottage should have a white fence fence. I do have a rope swing in my tree.

Clara, what a lovely post. NC must have the best B&Bs. Many years ago, my hubby and I stayed in one in Ashville -- stayed in one of the cottages first (divine) and then into the house. Your post reminded me of very precious memories. Happy Tea Day!

Hello Clara
Welcome back, I can see why you like this place so much. The cottage you rented is nicely decorated and so cozy looking.
It's always nice to get away for some R & R; no phone calls or computer to worry about.
You even had afternoon tea there, and so nicely presented with what was at hand.

Oh, Clara, what a delightful little cottage! I could move right in too. The sitting room is absolutely adorable and I adore Waverley fabrics! You mustn't have wanted to leave, it's so cute.
I wish I could have a white picket fence around my cottage but we are not allowed to build them here in our neighborhood, unfortunately.
Thank you for sharing your little getaway with us and coming to tea. Have a lovely week.

Blessings,
Sandi

Clara, I could live in that cottage also. Love, the colors! Everything is picture perfect. Right down to the delicious breakfast. We stayed in a little cottage close to the ocean in Portugal. I took pics outside but missed snapping indoors. What was I thinking? lol! Thanks for sharing with SYC. Glad you got to get away.
